Early Intervention Programs
The Early Intervention Program is the core of CEID. Our program combines on-site specialized early childhood education; extensive therapies (including speech, occupational, and physical); regular audiology check-ups; home visits; and parent education and support. The members of our staff have master’s degrees in deaf education, speech therapy, occupational therapy, and infant mental health. Our consulting physician is a neuro-developmental pediatrician.

Home Visit Program
- Children younger than 36 months are seen once or twice a week in their homes or at our center.
- Either a credentialed teacher who has experience and training in early childhood development, or a speech/language therapist will show parents how to help their child use hearing aids/cochlear implants, learn effective vocalizations and speech, and expand the child’s language abilities. Parents also learn about their child’s learning styles, hearing loss, cochlear implant options, appropriate play, and communication strategies.
- Sessions are taught in a play-based, natural environment.
- Our child to teacher ratio is 1:1.
Friday Transition Class
- Beginning around 1 year of age, children are welcomed into our Friday Transition Class. They come to school each Friday morning (with a parent or provider) for a group learning experience.
- Children older than 1 year, but who have recently been referred to CEID, join this class first before moving to another level.
- Children and families in the Friday Class also receive weekly individual home visits.
Toddler Class
- Toddler Class is for children from 18 to 36 months who demonstrate social, play, and language skills sufficient to benefit from a more intensive classroom experience.
- Our hands-on Piagetian* approach enables children to fully interact with toys and peers. Plus, they develop more complex use of language and speech.
- Speech Aerobics - our teachers implement a special speech activity that combines the work of Daniel Ling with age appropriate movement activities to encourage natural development of listening and speech.
- Our child to teacher ratio is typically 2:1.
- Refer to the class schedule for current days and hours.
Preschool Class
- Preschool Class is for children 3 to 5 years who thrive in small group instruction.
- We focus on the developmental needs and interests of preschool children, endorsing a multi-sensory and integrated thematic approach, preparing the children for kindergarten.
- Our child to teacher ratio is typically 4:1.
- Refer to the class schedule for current days and hours.
* Swiss biologist and psychologist Jean Piaget (1896-1980) is renowned for constructing a highly influential model of child development and learning. Piaget's theory is based on the idea that the developing child builds cognitive structures – i.e., mental "maps," schemes, or networked concepts for understanding and responding to physical experiences within his or her environment.
