We started early intervention with CEID and I soon realized how fortunate I was to have access to such a specialized team of teachers, therapists, and audiologists. I never thought I would learn so much about audiograms, deaf culture, sign language, early childhood development, and how to read with my child. |
If you are the parents of a baby who did not pass the newborn hearing screening, you are probably feeling scared and confused. Please listen to what I say. Regardless of whether your child is deaf or hearing, he has a bright future. If his hearing loss is found early and he gets the appropriate support and education, he will be able to do his best, just like any hearing child. So, if your child’s hearing loss has been found now, you are among the lucky ones. |
[Scarlett’s] medical team’s vigilance in fitting her with hearing aids, and then directing us to her terrific school for children who are deaf and hard of hearing, CEID, the greatest benefit Scarlett has received for her quality of life going forward. Communication is fundamental and attending this school that provides all of us with communication support provides that fundamental piece. We look forward to a bright future with our daughter, and are thankful for the vigilance Scarlett’s providers have contributed to all her progress. CEID has provided 5 years of genuinely life changing intervention and novel educational services to my daughter, Stephanie, from the time she was 9 months old. She is nearly 7 now, and moving on to kindergarten. The staff creates lesson plans that combine learning and fun through music, arts, stories and drama. Mandi originally had tactile defensiveness but by using hand under hand support, it allowed her to develop more independence. The staff made adjustments in the classroom for Mandi since she is visually impaired. They labeled classroom items with braille and placed a different piece of tactile fabric at each classroom entrance so she would recognize where she was going by touching the fabric. Due to Mandi’s visual and hearing impairments the use of touch and/or object cues was very important in letting her know what was going to happen next. We have had so much fun going on field trips to the petting zoo and the local parks. It helped teach us how to get Mandi more involved in the community. |
