COMMUNITY PLAYGROUPS

Welcome to Play & Communicate! This playgroup offers an inviting, neuro-affirming, and culturally responsive space where children with complex communication needs and multiple disabilities and their caregivers can learn and practice play skills within a Total Communication environment. A Licensed Speech and Language Therapist  will lead the group with the support of an assistant, and its success is driven by the active partnership of parents. 

 

This Playgroup is for:

• Children who are 3 to 8 years old

• Children who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing (D/HH) Plus

  • Deaf Plus includes children who also have conditions such as autism, cerebral palsy, learning disabilities, Down Syndrome/Trisomy 21, genetic conditions, or other complex medical or neurodevelopmental needs 

• Children with any mobility status or communication modality. 

 

During each Playgroup Session:

• Parents will learn play development and practical ways to engage their child in play

• Both structured and unstructured play opportunities will be offered for children to develop their communication and independence

• Parents and children alike are provided opportunities to engage in peer to peer socialization for community and play development​

​This group intends to complement children's existing educational or medical services by providing an opportunity for a robust, fun, inclusive, educational, and family-centered social and recreational program.
